Description
A thick and hearty homemade beef chili that balances spices and textures perfectly for a comforting meal.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 bell pepper, diced
- 1 pound ground beef
- 2 tablespoons chili powder
- 1 tablespoon cumin
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
- 1 can (15 ounces) kidney beans, rinsed and drained
- 1 can (15 ounces) black beans, rinsed and drained
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Heat the olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Sauté the diced onion and bell pepper until soft, approximately 5 minutes.
- Add minced garlic and sauté for an additional minute until fragrant.
- Increase the heat to medium-high and add the ground beef. Brown the beef thoroughly, breaking it apart as it cooks.
- Stir in the chili powder, cumin, and smoked paprika, allowing them to toast slightly for enhanced flavor.
- Pour in the crushed tomatoes and beans, stirring to combine. Season with salt and pepper.
- Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and cover. Simmer for at least one hour, stirring occasionally. Adjust seasoning as needed.
Notes
For a vegetarian option, substitute additional beans or lentils for ground beef. Allow chili to simmer longer for deeper flavors.
