Description

Bright and flavorful sautéed green beans, showcasing their natural crunch with garlic and red pepper flakes for a delightful side dish.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound fresh green beans, ends trimmed
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (or to taste)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice or zest (optional, for brightness)

Instructions

  1. Blanch the beans: Bring a pot of salted water to a rolling boil. Add the green beans and blanch for 2-3 minutes until bright green and just tender. Immediately transfer them to an ice bath to halt the cooking process.
  2. Sauté aromatics: In a large pan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and red pepper flakes, cooking for about 1 minute until the garlic is fragrant but not browned.
  3. Finish the dish: Drain the green beans from the ice bath and add them to the skillet. Season with salt and pepper, and sauté for another 3-4 minutes until heated through and well-coated with garlic oil. If desired, finish with lemon juice or zest prior to serving.

Notes

Fresh green beans are preferable for better texture and nutrients. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days.
