Description
A delightful twist on classic spider cookies, combining rich peanut butter and chocolate for a whimsical treat.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup peanut butter
- 1 cup sugar (or light brown sugar for added moisture)
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- ½ cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet recommended, for balanced sweetness)
- Optional: ¼ cup chopped nuts (for additional crunch)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Combine the peanut butter, sugar, egg, and vanilla extract in a bowl. Mix until smooth and well incorporated.
- Whisk together the baking soda and flour (if using) in a separate bowl. Gradually fold this into the peanut butter mixture until combined, ensuring not to overmix.
- Scoop portions of the dough onto the lined baking sheet, leaving space between each for spreading.
- Shape each cookie gently into rounds and place them in the oven. Bake for about 10 minutes or until lightly golden.
- Remove from the oven and while still warm, press chocolate chips into the top of each cookie to create “spider legs.”
- Cool on a wire rack to allow the cookies to set and flavors to meld.
Notes
Using room temperature ingredients can enhance the mixing process. For added texture, crunchy peanut butter can be used.
